Yeah! The well known and loved "uncle Ken and auntie Sarah" have arrived! I had the perfect plan. They would arrive at 0730 in Dusseldof and wouldn't get in until 9 to the house. I was ready to drive away to take Luci to school and run to the market when Kirk drove up with Ken and Sarah. Their flight was an hour early! Luci was thrilled to see then before school. All the girls were very excited to see them. Arianna got off the bus, saw Ken, and ran to him throwing her arms around him like a television reunion. They've scarcely left him alone all night. Today we took it easy... went to the GK market to pick up some fresh flowers and good breads and cheeses. The cheese man was very friendly and eager for us to try just about every cheese he had. Not only did he encourage us to taste them, but he also told us the regions that they were made in, cooking temperatures, and the kind of cows milk that was used. It was really interesting. We settled on three good ones. One cheese was particularly bad and poor Ken made the most horrible face. It really was awful... flavorless with a bitter aftertaste and a runny consistancy softer than brie or cream cheese. Sarah enjoyed having Brotchen again. These German breads really are special. Later, during Tiara's ballet class, we relaxed at my favorite bagel shop and had some juice. The little girls had bagels. Sarah tried one and gave it the "thumbs up" since she's from the NE and knows her bagels. We had planned on going to the Turkish festival, but when we drove up and rolled down the windows to hear the music, I heard Bon Jovi. The closer we got the louder it got until the car shook, so we thought that if the music was intolerably loud while sitting in the car with one window cracked and the car vibrating, then it would probably be insanely loud for us and the kids. To me, a Turkish festival should be about hearing Turkish music and experiencing a bit of their culture so losing my hearing to a Turkish band singing old US rock hits is not quite what I had in mind. So, home we went for a nice home cooked meal. Everyone is sleeping now. It's late. I should be sleeping, but Kirk said that the band is coming through at Midnight, so I want to stay up and take pictures. You'll know by tomorrow's blog whether I actually am successful or not.
