Tiara is participating in Odyssey of the Mind this year. OM is an international educational program that encourages students to creatively solve problems and then bring those solutions to competitions on local, state, and world levels.

This is the first year she's done it, but it's been fun. On Mondays they do quick work on their own and in groups given certain tasks and materials to accomplish something specific. On Wednesdays and Sundays she meets with her team to work on their big project for the competition in Heidelberg in a couple weeks. The teams are chosen according to birthdays, so Tiara, being the youngest 6th grader, is grouped with a fourth grader and two fifth graders on her team. It's been a challenge for her just to negotiate those personalities and to assert herself a bit, but it's a good experience. Here she is trying to build a structure using two golf balls and 10 index cards.
