Do you know that in parts of Southern Italy and around Naples, you actually have to pay the Mafia if you want to live there "safely?" Seriously. Now. Today in the year 2008, it is still a truth. I learned this today from a Spanish friend who was going to move to Naples with her husband but were told that they would have to pay first for their protection. It seems so unreal.

I've also learned living here that we do not speak English as we thought, but American. Other nationalities make distinguish the two and I've been told many times that I speak "very nice American." Why, thank you. I suppose if I want to speak English, I'll have to start speaking like Miss. Marple and use words like loo, rubbish, and whinging.
