Gangelt is the town about 7K from us down the road. It is a real city, unlike Gillrath that is still just a little village. On Monday, we parked the car and took a walk there.
The church is beautiful, so we walked around that first. It had a lot of old tombstones around the front of it right against the church wall. Then around back we was more tombstones, some very fancy and ornate, but new. They curved around the back of the church and then continued intermittantly through a landscaped garden. Each stone had flowers all around it and a tiny lantern. Most of the lanterns were glowing with lit candles. It was beautiful - both the church and the way they cared for the stones there.

Gangelt is a small town, but it still has a lot of remants of its history. Many parts of its old city wall still stand with small lookouts in them. They are now incorporated in the city and blend in with the brick buildings. The city tower was originally built in 1364, but was destroyed with most of the town by fire in 1484. It was built again in 1511, then destroyed again 31 years later. In 1791, the persistant locals built it again and now it remains, beautiful, though not as old as the town. It is someones house now and has a beautiful white horse near it - I look at it and think that may be Rapunzel should be peering out its top windows.
We walked through the old city gate and around the residential area. I saw a very old farmstead with a shiny new Harley Davidson sitting in front of it.
Gangelt has a wild animal park and a nice playground. It is also where I do all my local grocery shopping. I like it. The top photo shows part of the old city wall. There is usually a very large herd of black and white cows in front of it. In the background you can see the steeple of the church and a neat building to the right with a series of bells in it. It's a simple town, but it has personality.

Quotes to consider...
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."
-Albert Einstein
What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose."
-- Henry Ward Beecher
It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. -- Anthony Robbins
We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing. -- George Bernard Shaw
An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered. -- GK Chesterton
The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
For most of history, Anonymous was a woman. -- Virginia Woolf
A friend is someone who will help you move. A real friend is someone who will help you move a body. -- anon
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory. -- Paul Fix
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone … The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. ~Audry Hepburn
I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. -- Thomas Jefferson
