Ha Ha. That was my attempt at lame humor. :)

Because today I had to go to Betera to make a deposit at this bank because though I have a branch 10 minutes from my house in Puzol, they wouldn't take my check yesterday and the Betera branch will.

It's ok. This town is sweet. I like the narrow pedestrian only streets though the pastel stuccoed homes sitting wall to wall with iron bars and ceramic "paintings" embedded into them. It's cozy and comfortable. A little like Venice, only shorter. And today all the old ladies were out doing their morning shopping with their wheeled carts in tow. Stopping to chat with neighbors, smiling, doing to the bakery for a bread and a sweet and probably to catch up on the latest. Watching them was fun. They know everyone. And so I did get some odd looks. They don't know me. ;)

So I was running errands in Betera on 9/11. Remembering, wondering what ceremonies would be happening back home, loving my country from a distance. Feeling a bit far away without internet or phone today to connect, to see the news, to talk to family. Praying for a country whose core I believe in, but for whom I worry. The distance puts things in perspective, sometimes. I am not bombarded with political spin from any direction. But then what I learn is tailored by what media choices I make and what I chose to hear. So may the perspective isn't perfect. Either way, I am an American living in Spain and though I absolutely treasure the opportunity to live abroad, I treasure the privilege to live abroad as an American.

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone … The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. ~Audry Hepburn
