This morning, as usual, I got up before Mr. Sun, slunk downstairs, flicked on lights, made a ton of racket, woke up the girls in my cheeriest voice quite opposite of my real feelings towards morning, let the dog out, counted to 10, then let her back in at her bark. I pet her head. Her fur was cold. And two sparkly things caught my eye. I bent over, looked closely at the crystaline white shimmers on her back, and touched one. It was cold and disappeared on my finger.
No. It's early. No. I'm still half-asleep. A fluke flake? No. It absolutely can't be snowing in Valencia.
The girls got up, the routine went on, the sky began to lighten and just before it was time to go, the sun was up just enough that I looked out the window and yelled, "SNOW!"
Then came the screeches of excited girls and the begging of all four to stay home from school. A snow day! Let's stay home. No, no, if we go to school we won't be able to play! Please, mommy, please!!!
But this mean old mommy made them get on the bus anyway. And I ran off to have coffee with a friend and contemplate errands because if a car can run a stop sign in the mist, then how will these people drive in the snow? But the snow stopped and I ran my errands in awe of the intensity of the white that covered all the mountains and even small hills all around the city. L'Eliana had 3" and some got as much as 6" - towns not far from us at all. The hill behind us was sprinkled with white. There was no accumulation here, but it was still amazing to see the Mediterranean sea behind a veil of falling snow.
Kicking myself for not taking pictures.

Quotes to consider...
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."
-Albert Einstein
What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose."
-- Henry Ward Beecher
It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. -- Anthony Robbins
We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing. -- George Bernard Shaw
An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered. -- GK Chesterton
The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
For most of history, Anonymous was a woman. -- Virginia Woolf
A friend is someone who will help you move. A real friend is someone who will help you move a body. -- anon
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory. -- Paul Fix
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone … The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. ~Audry Hepburn
I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. -- Thomas Jefferson
