In honor of today, the first day this season that I have ventured out on to the hot sandy beaches in my bathing suit, I bring you this comic which sums up my sentiments of summer attire.
Even in my pre-children days I felt a bit shy about my middle, but now summer's arrival is even more bitter sweet. On one hand, I'm ready for sun and sleeping in. On the other hand, I hold my bikini which seems to have shrunk in my drawer during the winter. Who knew you had to feed and water those things? I'm worried now. I think it's been on a starvation diet... may be I should have been too.
So today, I head to the beach, my neckline plunging a bit deeper than usual, my ego plunging even deeper still, and my swim skirt protecting any shred of dignity that I have left.
Thankfully all shapes, sizes, and objects of gravitational pull are out today with and without their tops, so I'll rip off my dress, hold my breath and wade into the water hoping that my fellow beach goers will be blinded enough by the shocking glow of my sun starved upper thighs that they simply won't see them jiggle or the pudge around my middle.
The water is almost warm and the plateau extends enough that I can walk out quite far if I'd like. The waves are slight. Elise is paddling back and forth on the boogie board. From my waist up, I look fine. May be I'll stay in the water forever.
This is where mermaids really have it made!
The photo: My girls on this historical first bathing suit beach day of the season. A photo of me? Ha! Don't be ridiculous.

Quotes to consider...

-Albert Einstein

A friend is someone who will help you move. A real friend is someone who will help you move a body. -- anon
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory. -- Paul Fix
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone … The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. ~Audry Hepburn
