Today is Sunday.  A family day.  A sunny one after a week of unpredictable weather.  And, as if that's not enough, it's Mother's Day - in Spain.

Families are out in droves.  Dressed up, laughing.  It feels good to join them, so we did, or tried.  A slowish morning followed by a leisurley stroll up and around the Segunto Castle except  unbenownst to us, it closes at 2 on Sundays and holidays of which today is both.

Drat.

So, we spent 30  minutes driving around looking for a parking space, 30 minutes walking up the narrow streets to the castle entrance, and 30 not-so leisurely minutes looking around a bit before being herded out the gate again.

Oh well.  We tried.  Tempted to join the party and eat at one of the patios spilling out from one of the local restaurants, but thought peace and tranquility would be better - i.e. eating at home where the moms had to cook, but at least the kids would play and be happy.  And it's not really our mother's day yet.

I can't explain the cross.  It appeared just yesterday here at the entrance to the neighborhood.  Doesn't seem to be a good representation of "Mother's Day," unless Mother's Day is Mary's Day here.  Possible since Father's Day falls on Joseph's Day.  Although I still don't see how a cross would be a good symbol of the day.

May be they're preparing for Virgin's Day which is next weekend.  Strange.  Mother's Day coming the week before Virgin's Day.  Seems a bit backwards, doesn't it?
