| Fog over Snoqualmie Pass, Washington State |
They say that "absence makes the heart grow fonder," and I can attest to that now a thousand times over. I almost feel like the Grinch at the end of the movie. My heart was never that small, but I feel like it's grown in leaps and bounds for this place that I used to call home. It's strange.
I've driven this route before from Seattle east. I've seen the green, the mountains, the passes. I remember a few places that were pretty, but I also remember being bored and just hoping the drive would end soon. Not today. May be the fog was doing a special show just for us swirling like frosting near the mountain peaks and hovering about the tree tops. May be it was trying to lure us back. It did a good job. And the trees in a million shades of green. Magnificent.
Yep. It's a barn. Just a barn. You know how many old barns I passed by when I lived here and didn't even really see them? This became one of my vacation obsessions. They are everywhere and all amazing.
So may be it's not in the view itself, but in how you choose to see it.

Quotes to consider...
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."
-Albert Einstein
What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose."
-- Henry Ward Beecher
It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. -- Anthony Robbins
We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing. -- George Bernard Shaw
An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered. -- GK Chesterton

A friend is someone who will help you move. A real friend is someone who will help you move a body. -- anon
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory. -- Paul Fix
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone … The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. ~Audry Hepburn

Your last sentence is almost exactly what I said to Brent when we drove from Nampa, Idaho to Roseburg, Oregon this last weekend! While we'd always planned to move back to Portland and had never seen ourselves as Nampa folks, it's beginning to grow on us and we're feeling content here. What used to seem dry, drab and dreary had immense beauty this time around and I'm certain it was in direct proportion to our level of contentedness. And it's not that we disregard our dreams or become complacent in where we are... but I've had to learn to 'grow where I'm planted' and just enjoy my journey. Anyway. My thought for the day, I guess. :D
