About a year ago I joined my Spanish friends for coffee at Noemi's house, a friend from Madrid. She's traveled a lot and is a bonafide foodie. Her husband had just returned from Spain with a few boxes of these, one of her favorite treats, something that she was gracious enough to share. It's always fun watching Noemi eat. Her eyes light up, the edges of her lips curl up as she takes a bite. She laughs and mmmms and just makes food look fun. So when I went grocery shopping and saw this familiar box on the shelf - here of all places, I was thrilled! A specialty of Leon, these flaky flower shaped pastries are made from layers of flaky pastry doused in powdered sugar. They are light and sweet and extremely messy. Must have coffee on hand.
