I had plans with Begonia to go to Valencia today. Sunny and blue, it would be a good day for it, but Tiara has a swollen hip, so I need to stay close to home. Now sitting at my computer "working" and eating panquemao for lunch, but without chocolate. Simply a softball sized ball of bread, with a crisp sugared exterior giving way to a light, spongy interior, panquemao is one of those old foods - something that's just always been here, something that Santiago's mom used to eat when she was a girl. Traditional to this region, it's slightly sweet, but otherwise just a plain ball of bread that according to Santi and a couple Spanish ladies standing at the register, is wonderful for a snack with a piece of chocolate. Isn't everything more wonderful with a piece of chocolate?
