A couple weeks ago, not long before "The Play," Luci lost her a top tooth. That night a couple shiny Euro were slipped into the pouch where her tooth had been. In the morning she was excited, but not as much as I expected. The tooth fairy always brings a couple nice coins. Ahhh, but we're in Spain. The tooth fairy doesn't come to Spain, the Tooth Mouse does! And, according to Luci's friends, the tooth mouse brings small toys as well.
She came home from school feeling better the next morning. Her friends had explained that since she just moved to Spain, the Tooth Mouse just gave her a little thing for her first tooth, but that she'd get more with her next tooth.
Last night her other big front tooth fell out. Unprepared, this tooth mouse scurried this way and that looking for something special that Luci hadn't seen before. I ended up with two things - a stuffed lion that I didn't give her for Christmas (because the # of gifts has to be even) and a small glass heart paperweight. The tooth mouse knowing Luci's weakness for all things bling put a couple coins in the pouch and set the pretty glass heart beside it.
At 1am, Luci woke up, rolled over, looked at the heart, then started talking excitedly. She was having a "special cuddle night" sleeping in mom's bed. "Go to sleep, Luci."
So her friends were right. The tooth mouse did much better the second time around and the "stash of secret toys" is being prepared. I'm thrilled to be fulfilling my job as "Mouse," enjoy a new custom, but am thankful that the only one sticking their dainty fingers under my pillow as a clean and sparkly fairy collecting teeth for her castle. The idea of a large rat scurrying around grabbing teeth from under pillows is a bit revolting.

Quotes to consider...
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."
-Albert Einstein
What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose."
-- Henry Ward Beecher
It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. -- Anthony Robbins
We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing. -- George Bernard Shaw
An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered. -- GK Chesterton
The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
For most of history, Anonymous was a woman. -- Virginia Woolf
A friend is someone who will help you move. A real friend is someone who will help you move a body. -- anon
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory. -- Paul Fix
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone … The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. ~Audry Hepburn
I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. -- Thomas Jefferson
