After midnight...

Yes. It's after midnight and I was all warm and cozy, settled into a pile of pillows with my open copy of Reading Lolita in Tehran. Was. But the constant flow of traffic and stuttered honking of horns one, then two, then a trio... is keeping me awake. I live in a small village in farm country in a nation where a grocery store that stays open until 8 is open late. There is almost never any traffic. Past 8, the streets are almost silent except in the sugar beat season when the large trucks rumble by late into the night. And soccer season. Fussball. Germany beat Portugal. Now they'll play the winner of the Croatia v. Turkey game. Everyone watches soccer. Even the non-sporty folks like me know what's going on. And I don't even have to watch a match. The honking tells all.

Ooo... a lull. If I hurry, I might be able to fall asleep before the next round of symphonic horn blaring. Wish me luck!
