Gas seems to be a topic of discussion everywhere. You all complain in the states and we all complain here. After all, our gas rations are supposed to be a bit lower than the US national average and it tends to be on the higher side making us wonder where that excess goes. Still, by doing the math and seeing what locals here pay, I am grateful for our coupon books and understand better why bicycles are so popular here. If I had to pay $9/gallon, I'd be riding my bike too.

We purchased 100 liters today for $109.53. In Germany, the price for 100 liters of gas is 149.90Euros. It's even more expensive in the Netherlands. While we are driving around Germany, it's not so bad. We can buy gas at Esso stations which can mean driving out of the way sometimes, but at least we get gas at our price and not theirs. The problem is longer road trips. Driving outside of Germany is expensive if you have to fill up with gas there. We've paid over $150 just to fill one tank of gas in France... and that was when the dollar/Euro conversion rate was a little kinder.

The math...

I pay $1.095/liter or $4.145/gallon
They pay $2.374/liter or $8.986/gallon
